An old firehouse turned small theatre is a short walk from the Historic Fairhaven District. Coffee, restaurants and shopping is a short walk away.

Some parking available at the Firehouse, more free parking available behind Haggen.

WORKSHOP TOPIC
F I R E I N T H E B E L L Y CHOREOGRAPHY

A choreography wrapped in undulations, spirals, and diagonal extension.
A choreography to wake up the spine. Undulations, flutters, and diagonal
extensions all with the purpose of making transitions disappear. Fluid and sleek
lines mix with the circular and infinite shapes of belly dance, with dynamic
splashes along the way. Using breath and the negative space around us, we will
be chasing movement through the entire body and back again. The technique
behind Zoes style of undulations and interior circles will be broken down for this
workshop, as well as a vigorous warm-up to prepare for full-body expansive
movement.

ABOUT ZOE JAKES
Zoe Jakes began her belly dance journey in 2000 and is known as a pioneer of the fusion style. Zoes signature technique of dance incorporates pop and lock isolations, elements of classical indian dance, jazz foot work and modern lines, with abundances of folk belly dance inspiration.

Zoe is a founding member of the electronic and world fusion group Beats Antique, where she composes music and is the lead dancer. Since Beats Antiques 2007 inception, Zoe has been renowned around the world for her unique form of belly dance.

To share her expertise with the next generation, Zoe is an accomplished teacher and incorporates playfulness and ease to create an engaging training experience. Above all, Zoe desires to create an inclusive environment so all may enjoy the art of belly dance. There is grace that comes with training in this artistry, and Zoe aspires to teach everyone in her classes to embody this fluidity.
