Seed Saving 101: Part Two

This class is brought to you by the Organic Seed Alliance in partnership with WSU Regional Small Farms. This part two class will build upon the knowledge shared during the part one class.

Topics for this second class will include:
-Organic seed production and organic seed saving methods, building upon methods taught in the first class
-Plant breeding
-What are we selecting for, why is that important, and other considerations
-Seed cleaning: necessary tools, low tech vs. high tech methods
-More in-depth lesson in hand pollination
-Methods of documentation
-Dehybridization
-Multiyear planning

Participants can sign up for a single class or for both. Materials from the part one class will be shared with participants who can only attend this part two class.

Who can attend: This class is for anyone interested in seed saving, from small farmers to backyard growers. It's also for farmers who are curious about growing organic or in the process of transitioning to organic. The class is free and open to the public.

This class is a part of a series called Living on the Land Workshops, a program by WSU Regional Small Farms for Kitsap, Jefferson, and Clallam counties. Living on the Land Workshops are for people living on small acreage, backyard growers, and anyone interested in connecting with their local food systems.
