October 3-5, Utopia Opera presents Forbear! Theatre's production of:

THE MIKADO
Music by Arthur Seymour Sullivan & Words by W.S. Gilbert

Renowned professional G&S company Forbear! Theatre (est. 2015) joins with Utopia Opera to bring their fantasy reimagining of The Mikado to NYC following its successful UK tour.

In this comic operetta, the wandering minstrel Æthel-Rún finds himself agreeing to die at the hands of the Lord High Executioner, Klók-Cow, in exchange for one month of marriage to Mna-y'um, the love of his life. However, when Æthel-Rún reveals his secret past to his new companions, there begins a desperate and hilarious battle to save themselves from being boiled alive. Forbear! & Utopia are proud to lovingly bring this fantasy kingdom to life, with the same madcap characters, plot, and iconic songs that have been loved for generations.

Minimal changes have been made to Gilbert's original text: the names have been changed as well as certain specific references to the opera's original setting. All told, it's 99% (or more) the same libretto you have heard since 1885.

Content warnings: mild, absurd references to suicide and execution
