Tajuan LaBee US 2020 1h Festival - Local Sightings Film Festival 2020: Feature Films
About ** Co-presented with Seattle Documentary Association and Social Justice Film Festival **
On June 8, 2020, the Seattle Police Department abandoned their East Precinct station on Capital Hill. On July 1, they reclaimed the station. In the days between, a spontaneous, radical society--first known as Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP), and later as Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ)--bloomed. Documentarian, activist, and longtime Seattle resident by way of Michigan Tajuan LaBee recorded his time spent in the Capital Hill occupation, and his film is a candid, insightful study of the epochal Autonomous Zones complex culture and varied population. Watching 24 Hours in the CHOP is watching history as it happens.
